Regular (well, let’s be honest, more like irregular) updates on Alissa’s travels, books, life and other important and not-so-important stuff.
Lucky Friday the 13th?
Yesterday on my walk to the post office, I wisely stepped into the street to avoid walking under a ladder. Later, on my dog walk Jack made sure that black cat didn’t cross our path. Plus the fortune cookie I ate after dinner advised me that a golden opportunity would come my way shortly. Then there were the matter of these, which showed up on my doorstep yesterday: Those are beautiful final copies of Ferocity Summer. It’s in print. There’s a bunch more sitting in my publisher’s warehouse, and very soon it will be...
read moreIt’s National Library Week
If you get a chance, please remember to say thank you to a librarian this week. Of course, you should say thank you to librarians all the time. They are good people, and you have no idea the crazy stuff they have to put up with on a daily basis. I could tell stories. Who am I kidding? I could write a book. Really, I once worked at a library where we briefly considered putting up a No-Peeing-In-The-Bookdrop sign. Since I know most of my readers are bookish sorts and some of you actually work in libraries, I probably don’t need to tell you...
read moreA Special Anthology
My short story “Rebuilt” is included in an anthology titled Facing the Sun. What’s special about this collection of short works is that its goal is to raise money to help pay some of the expenses of Richard Levangie, a friend and fellow writer who recently underwent surgery for a brain tumor. You can help out Richard and also receive a digital copy of Facing the Sun by visiting the Facing the Sun website and making a donation via PayPal. If you are able to make a donation, it will be greatly...

Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates it, and to those who don’t hope you enjoy this beautiful spring weekend!
read moreMy Response to that “Adults Should Read Adult Books” Editorial in the NY Times
The New York Times likes to run editorials so ridiculously controversial that they create huge amounts of buzz on Twitter and Facebook and such, and in turn drive lots of traffic to the NY Times website. More eyeballs, means more money to the Times. So, it’s hard to take any of these outrageous editorials too seriously. With that in mind, I would still like to offer my two cents on the “Adults Should Read Adult Books” editorial by Joel Stein. There are a lot of things I could say in response to Mr. Stein’s absurd rule,...
read more3 Reasons This Week is Awesome
1. I have access to the internet. Hi there! It’s been a little while since I posted on here, but that’s because I was busy moving into my new digs, and the internet wasn’t turned on until the end of last week. Now, that things are up and running and now that I am mostly caught up on email and such, I’ll try to get back into the habit of posting stuff regularly. 2. This Week is The NYC Teen Author Festival If you happen to be a New Yorker, this is a very awesome week indeed. That’s because the NYC Teen Author...
read moreHad a blast at PLA!
I want to say thanks to my awesome publisher, Flux, as well as to Stephen and Katie who are staffing the Llewellyn/Flux/Midnight Ink booth at PLA for making yesterday such a perfect day. I had a great time signing advanced copies of Ferocity Summer. I met friendly librarians, fellow writers and all sorts of interesting folks from all over the country. I also got to see some my friends and fellow author buddies. Margie Gelbwasser, Charlotte Bennardo and Natalie Zaman were all signing books at the Flux booth as well. What a fun day! We have to...

. . . it’s because right now most of my life is packed up in a box. I’m in the middle of moving into a new apartment, and then also tomorrow I’ll be in Philly for PLA. So, it’s a busy week. My apologies if I’m a bit more absent than usual from the online world. Hopefully, I’ll be back to normal soon!

I wanted to draw your attention a book auction and raffle going on now to raise money for school libraries in Henryville, Indiana. Henryville was recently devastated by tornadoes and my friend and fellow author Julia Karr has organized a book auction and raffle to help raise money to rebuild the school libraries. A whole bunch of authors have generously donated copies of their books to be auctioned and raffled off. To see all the great books for children and young adults available and to take part in the bidding visit the auction...
read moreOn the Disappearance of the Google Friend Connect Widget Thing
You may have noticed that the little Google Friend Connect box with all those pretty, smiling faces in it has disappeared. Rest assured, this is not because I have suddenly ditched all my friends. I still love you, but Google discontinued their Friend Connect service at the start of March for non-Blogger blogs. According to Google they discontinued the service because they want folks to start using Google+, which will apparently replace Facebook just like Google Buzz replaced Twitter. Anyway, you are still welcome to “follow” this...
