My sister was down visiting for the holiday weekend and just went home this morning. One of the things that came up this weekend was that she got to use her extensive knowledge of Northwest New Jersey Lakes and the pronunciation of those Lakes (many of them come from Lenni Lenape Indian words) over the weekend. Her brother-in-law mentioned something about Lake Hopatcong, but being from South Jersey mispronounced the name of the lake, which as any Sussex County girl knows is pronounced HO-Pat-Cong (so, yeah, pretty much exactly the way it looks.)
What does any of this happen to do with my trailer? Well, it just so happens that my sister and I spent our teen years in Byram Township, New Jersey, which happens to be the Township of Lakes. Lake Hopatcong isn’t in our town (it’s just next door) but a lot of other lakes are. Do you know who else spent their teen years in Byram Township? Scilla Davis, the main character of Ferocity Summer.
Scilla lives on a fictional lake in the very real township of Byram, and lakes play a significant role in the book. Scilla was involved in a boating accident the previous summer on the very real lake of Lake Mohawk. Lake Mohawk is only partly in Byram Township. Anyway, you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled because you just might see a little bit of lake footage in the Ferocity Summer trailer later this week.

Interesting. I visited one or two lakes in Jersey years ago. They were a lovely sight.
I can’t wait for the trailer.
Thanks, Medeia!
