Cat and mouse

It’s been raining a lot today. Some might say it’s raining cats and dogs. I’m more inclined to believe that it’s raining mice. Well, at least that all this rain chased one unfortunate mouse into the house. I say unfortunate because this house contains three cats and a dog who has been known to attack poor defenseless mice.

I heard some commotion in the hallway, and when I got out there this is what I saw:

That’s Amber taking her house protecting duties very seriously batting around a little itty bitty mouse. I’m an animal lover, but it’s possible I might have been heard to shout, “Kill it, Amber, kill it!” during this episode. Though one could argue I was shouting because I wanted her to put the poor thing out of its misery.

What I did find interesting that was during this whole episode the rest of my creatures were only a few feet away being not very helpful at all.

This is Alci, and he seemed annoyed that I would disturb his nap by taking a picture of him with my camera. I tried explaining to him that there was a live mouse in the hallway, but he was not concerned.

This is Autumn who was also enjoying a nap until I came along with my camera. Try as I might, I could not rouse her to go lend her sister any help in the mouse hunt.

This is Jack, and as you can see he seems to be anticipating the opportunity to enjoy a tasty treat, but I can assure you he did not lift a paw to help Amber in her mouse-killing efforts.

Of course, there is one tiny problem with the tiny mouse. Not long after I took these pictures I found that Amber had walked off to go take a rest under one of the living room chairs. The problem was that dead or alive the mouse was nowhere in sight. That was a few hours ago, and so far there has been no sign of it. I’m really hoping that I don’t accidentally stumble across a dead mouse any time soon.

  1. I love this story. I can’t wait for the sequel!! Will the mouse reappear?

  2. LOL! I feel bad laughing but I can’t help it. One of my cats is just as lazy as Alci and Autumn. Thankfully my other one is more like Amber. At least we both have one hunter in the family!

  3. Paul: It’s been more than 24 hours since I last saw that little rodent. I’m not sure what happened to him.

  4. Heather: It’s good to have one hunter around, because you never know when you’ll need their services.

  5. A perfect post for this weather we’ve been having. That poor little mouse – although I did have to LOL at the “Kill it, kill it!” line. :)

  6. Sometimes my cats surprise me and eat things whole.

Or they store gruesome items away for me to find months later.

    Have a nice day

  8. Well, maybe Amber ate the mouse. Don’t worry.
